Marilyn Jean Desens, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 22, 2016.

She was the daughter of Francis T. Walsh, Attorney at Law and Winifred (nee Ahern) Walsh.

Marilyn attended St Mary Catholic School in Pontiac, Illinois until Grade 6 when the family moved to Campus, Illinois. She graduated from Campus Public School and Reddick Community High School in Reddick, Illinois, Class of 1941.

She attended Illinois State University and the University of Illinois for three years. On July 24, 1945, she married her high school sweetheart, Major Sherwin Desens.

Sherwin G. Desens was a Major in the Army during World War II. Sherwin was captured by Nazi Germany, and was sent to Stalag 12A to 9B near Limburg An Der Lahn, Prussia where 4,339 other American POWs were held. Sherwin's capture was first reported to the International Committee of the Red Cross on August 4, 1944, and the last report was made on July 30, 1945. Based on these two reports, Sherwin was imprisoned for at least 360 days (~12 months), about the average for U.S. POWs. Ultimately, Sherwin was returned to military control, liberated or repatriated.

Settling down in Milton Junction, Wisconsin the couple became parents of surviving children Nancy Sue in 1946 and Paul Thomas (Lynn) in March of 1950. During the Korean war Sherwin flew air sea rescue for the Air Force from to Clark AFB in the Philippines. The family followed when housing was available. A series of military assignments followed in Maryland, Alabama, Idaho, Washington DC, Arkansas, and Nebraska until 1973 then retiring to Colorado. They designed and constructed a home in Perry Park near Larkspur. Retirement included attending classes at various Elder hostels and traveling. Hobbies included golfing, both for fun and exercise, collecting Majolica pottery, and photography. Survived by two children, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. They have made Wind Crest home since October, 2007.

She had one brother, Thomas T. Walsh.
