The funeral service for teacher and retired school principal R.E. Bowden of Paris will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at McEvoy Funeral Home.

Max Rogers will officiate. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and after 11 a.m. Thursday.

Bowden, 99, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at Henry County Healthcare Center.

Born Oct. 30, 1912, in Henry County, she was the daughter of the late Morris L. and Tommie Compton Howard.

She was married in 1936 to Harvey Thomas Bowden, who died Aug. 2, 2006.

Bowden was a member of Van Dyke Church of Christ. She was a former school teacher, teaching at several schools in the Henry County School System. She retired as principal of the Van Dyke community school.

She leaves a foster son: J.D. (Polly) Parker of Paris; a nephew: Billy (Anna Fay) Bowden of Paris; a niece: Patsy Bowden of Detroit; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She also was preceded in death by a brother: William Thomas Howard.
