"Many hearts were saddened by the announcement of the death of Mrs. Peter W. Gurley of Warnerville, which occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl Shafer, in Schenectady, at one o'clock this (Thursday) morning, following a stroke of paralysis at 11 p. m. on Wednesday. Mrs. Gurley sustained a stroke of paralysis three years ago, but had largely recovered from the effects of this when she sustained a second stroke June 3d last. She was gradually over-coming the effects of this, and for some time her general health had been improving. On Wednesday last she went to Schenectady to spend her sixty-sixth birthday, which occurred Saturday, March 13th, with her daughter. Jennie Wayman was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John G. Wayman and was born in Carbondale, Pa., March 13, 1849. With her parents, she removed to Warnerville while a young girl and had resided there since. Thirty-five years ago she was united in marriage to Peter W. Gurley. Two children blessed the union to whom the name of mother is indeed a precious legacy ... The remains will be brought to Cobleskill on the 11:35 train Friday and the funeral will be held at the M. E. church Saturday at 11 a. m ., Rev. Grant L. Bice officiating. Interment in the family plot in the Warnerville [sic] cemetery. Surviving are her husband and two daughters, Mrs. Carl Shafer of Schenectady and Miss Marguerite Gurley who is teaching at Nutley, N. J." [The Cobleskill Index (Cobleskill, NY), Mar. 18, 1915, Page 1]
