Robert Clarke Allain Sr. passed away at home on Friday, July 15, 2011 surrounded by loving family.
He was born in Malone, N.Y. on Nov. 16, 1928 to Dr. Clement Bernardin and Myrtie Belle (Ward) Allain. He attended Boonville schools and his father was a successful chiropractor with his mother running Allain's Tourist Home in Boonville. Bob obtained his business degree from Clarkson College, but music was his first passion having discovered this at age three. He was exceptionally musically inclined and pursued his talent throughout life playing in numerous bands throughout his lifetime, most notable Doc Allain's Snappy Band, local park band concerts in Lowville, Turin and the Boonville area where he excelled with the trumpet.
Family responsibilities prevented him from making a career in music but he never gave it up and passed his love for music to all his children. Bob's devotion and responsibility to his family was paramount so he began his work career with McAdam Cheese, Carthage, N.Y.
Truly a Renaissance man, Bob was the ultimate salesman and joined E.C. Crooks Memorial Corporation where he received numerous salesmanship achievement awards for nearly twenty years. Never settling for less, Bob bought Walser Granite Corporation which he ran for 10 years. He then branched off forming his own company, Dream Home Developers through Barden Homes.
Bob's achievements were varied and many, and he excelled in anything he did, especially golf and snowmobiling where he would continually teach, outplay and outlast even the most experienced. There wasn't anyone who wouldn't learn a thing or two when in the presence of Bob Allain. He never met anyone he didn't like or could make friends with.
Bob Allain made his mark everywhere with most folks begging for more stories, wisdom and Bob. He was an excellent listener, gracious host, and a fun partygoer. Bob and Gloria were well-known the past few years in the Northeast where they ran Allain's Bed & Breakfast in Woodgate, near Old Forge, N.Y.
Life-long friends were made when you met Bob Allain, affectionately known by all as "The Codger," Bob, Dad, Papa, Daddy, Grampa - he was truly The Man, The Myth, and The Legend.
Bob leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Gloria, a loving combined family of 10 as well as 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Complete obit published in The Oneida Daily Dispatch, Tuesday, July 19, 2011
