J. F. Wakefield, 65, of 440 Cole, owner of the J. F. Wakefield Realty Co., died early today in a local hospital.

He was a lifelong resident of Corpus Christi. A past president of the Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club, Wakefield had served as a director of the International Good Neighbor Council, the Board of Realtors, and the Texas Good Roads Association, and was a past director of Goodwill Industries, and Corpus Christi Town Club. He had served as chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Highway Committee and the Highway 77 Committee, on advisory boards of Spohn Hospital, the Junior League and Centuria Club, and was a former member of the Area Development Committee and the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth B.; one daughter of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Mrs. R. D. Buford of Corpus Christi and Mrs. Fred Pipes of Huntsville; and two brothers, Carroll Wakefield of Corpus Christi and Clarence Wakefield of San Antonio.
