of Little Lydia Elston
who departed this life at Parsons, September 19th, 1877, these lines are affectionately inscribed:
Go toll the bell soft and low;
Step lightly and with measured tread;
For our darling's passed away,
One more numbered with the dead.
Death that grim monster came before
And stole one from our little band;
And now our little Lydia's gone,
To dwell at God's right hand.
Before the throne those two have met,
Now singing praise to Him on high;
Now beckoning from fair Caanan's shore,
To meet them home beyond the sky.
Pure and fair was our little girl;
When disease its destroying finger laid,
Upon our last remaining hope;
We saw her like a flower fade.
No more we'll hear that merry laugh;
Or see that smiling face again;
Our Lydia's in a happier land,
Away from error, death or pain.
Oh! Lord, we own thy wisdom great;
For mercy now our voices raise;
Save, save their last remaining joys,
And thine be all the praise.>
