Mr. Kirksey Dunn Rankin, age 78 of Huntersville, N.C. died Wednesday November 1, 2006 at his residence.

Born July 18, 1928 in Mecklenburg County he was a son of the late Fleix Edward Rankin and Zula Dunn Rankin.

He was a member of Cooks Memorial Presbyterian Church, a member of VFW Post 9736 in Croft where he was post commander for ten years, a Master Mason of Derita Lodge # 715 for thirty one years and retired as owner of Carolina Metal Service after ten years of ownership.

Kirk was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. While serving with the 2nd Division he was Sergeant First Class, a platoon guide in Co 1 for the division's 23rd Invader Regiment, awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroism, promoted to the grade of Sergeant First Class on "Heartbreak Ridge" and awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge.

He was devoted to his family and especially proud of his eight grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Burial will follow at the Robin S. McGee Family Cemetery.
