Doris grew up in Stillwater and graduated from college there in 1943, known then as Oklahoma A&M and now as Oklahoma State University. She got a Secretarial degree because at that time, women did not get degrees in accounting, which was her first choice.
She married Joe Smith in 1949, a guy 3 years younger, but who had gone through the war. He was very cute and had a great sense of humor but he was just 3" taller than her so she had to go out and buy shoes with lower heels! I guess he was worth it. Their marriage was a happy one and lasted almost 63 years.
