John Jacob Baber was born on the family farm in the Neudorf district. He attended Rosewood School. He worked for some farmers in the Lipton district where he met his future bride. He married Mary Elizabeth Dilk on October 18, 1922 at Lipton, Sask. and they moved to the family farm at Neudorf. . In 1925 they moved to Portland, Oregon looking for work. John drove a truck as a way of making a living. Their oldest daughter was born here. In 1927 they moved to Chicago, Illinois, once again looking for work. John worked in a tool factory. When the depression hit, John was laid off at the factory so they decided to return to Saskatchewan where he took up farming again on a farm 11 miles north of Lipton. Their 2nd child, Ernest was born here. After 2 years of no crops, John had the opportunity to buy the International Harvester business at Lemberg, Sask. and a 3rd child, a son was born. He owned the business till his retirement. John and Mary were active in their community, both in civic duties and in their church. They retired to the Golden Manor senior housing. John died in the Balcarres Hospital on July 7, 1994 at the age of 96.
