John married Maude Emelia Johnson at Fulda, in February 1902. They farmed near Avoca following their marriage and moved to the Tracy area in 1932.


John and Maude were the parents of ten children, Grace Mattinger of Bremerton, WA; Mrs. Ewald (Agnes) Ewy of Westbrook; Harry of Chicago, IL; Fred, Emil, Charles, and Clarence of Tracy & Walter. Ralph preceded John in death passing away at 2 yrs of age in 1913. Another son, name unknown, also passed away prior to John's death.
