DEATH OF MRS. VALENTINE BEST
The death of one of the oldest residents of this district, Mrs. Mary Ann Best, widow of the late Valentine Best, occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. J. Cameron, Grant's Corners, on November 16th.
The deceased, who had reached the great age of 93 years and 10 months, was born at Eamer's Corners being a daughter of the late Gordon Ross. She formerly resided with her son, Mr. Robert Best of Watertown, South Dakota, coming to live with her daughter in Grant's Corners, seven years ago.
She was greatly respected and her death will be regretted by a wide circle of friends here and at her former home. She had been a great sufferer for the past four years, but endured with patience and fortitude.
The late Mrs. Best was the eldest of a family of sixteen, two of whom survive her, her brothers, Mr. George Ross, Cornwall; and Mr. Henry Ross, of Ashland, Wis.
She leaves five sons and three daughters, Messrs. Gordon and Robert Best, of Watertown, S. Dakota; Dan and John Best of Florence, S. Dakota; George Best of Looking Glass, Oregon; Mrs. A. C. Burnstead, of Florence, S. D.; Mrs. James A. Groves, of Wallace, S. D.; and Mrs. J. J. Cameron, of Grant's Corners. There are twenty grand-children and fourteen greatgrand-children.
The funeral took place on Tuesday last [19 Nov 1918] to Woodlawn Cemtery[sic], the service being conducted by the Rev. Hugh Munroe, pastor of St. John's Church. The pall-bearers were Messrs. H. K. McLennan, John McDougall, Fred McLeod, N. H. Baker, Alex. Ferguson and James Blackadder. Beautiful floral offerings were sent including wreaths from Mr. and Mrs. George Ross; sprays from Mr. and Mrs. Fred McLeod, her grandson and wife; and Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Cameron, Mille Roches. The deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family
