WHITSETT Bruce Alvin Andrews, age 90, died peacefully in his Whitsett, NC home on October 8, 2016. He was the widower of Mary Frances. They shared 68 years of marriage together.Born in Greensboro, NC, he was the son of Clayton and Myrtle Andrews. Bruce was a World War II veteran, served with the 14th Armored Division, 3rd Army. He was wounded in 1945 and awarded the Purple Heart. He was a transportation operator for many years and retired from Spartan Express in 1991. Bruce was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as a devoted husband, loving and generous father. He truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family and spending as much time as he could with his grandchildren. His hobbies included raising a family and caring for God's creation through gardening. Bruce was an active and dedicated member of Springwood Presbyterian Church and was loved by many. He will be remembered as an avid Duke Blue Devils basketball and New York Yankees fan, as well as a proud member of the American Legion, where he regularly honored other war veterans of the past and present, displaying the discipline and patriotism he learned while in the Army. He is survived by his two sons, Brett and his wife Christine, and Scott and his wife Josie; his five grandchildren, Aaron, Christopher, McKenzie, McKailyn, and Jake; his brothers, Dean and Bob, and countless nieces and nephews.Family, friends and others whose lives Bruce touched are invited to Springwood Presbyterian Church in Burlington, NC on Friday, October 14, 2016 for a visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. and a celebration of life church service at 2 p.m. with the interment immediately following in the church cemetery.Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Springwood Presbyterian Church (1422 Springwood Church Rd, Burlington, NC 27215).Rich and Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington is assisting the family.Condolences may be offered at www.richandthompson.com.
