Grace Nelson Olson, one of Andrew & Emma's daughters, spoke in glowing terms about her father Andrew. She adored him. "Momma was the disiplinarian in the family, and my father was always gentle, kind, and loving."

NELSON RITE HELD AT HARCOURT FRIDAY P.M.
Andrew Nelson was born in Kalmars, Sweden, August 7 [14th], 1866 and passed away at his home in Harcourt on May 30, 1936, at the age of 69 years, 8 months, and 23 days. He came with his parents to America when about 3 years of age and settled near Ottumwa, Iowa. A few years later they moved to Lost Grove Township, later making their home in Harcourt.
In 1901 he was united in marriage with Emma Wassgren. They have made their home in Harcourt, where he has served as section foreman for the Fort Dodge, Des Moines & Southern [Railroad] for nearly thirty-three years.
[Also worked for Newton & Northwestern Railroad, making total railroad employment 42 years].
His parents and only brother and sister preceded him in death, the brother in 1935.
Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife and nine children, Harold of Fort Dodge, Mrs. Orville Paulson and Mrs. Joy Wassgren of Maywood, California, Mrs. Harold Olson of San Diego, California, and Kenneth, Jeanette, Lloyd, Roger and Velma of Harcourt, 8 grand children and also two nieces in California.
He will long be remembered for his kind and loving disposition and although of a quiet nature was always ready with a helping hand for anyone in need. During the last few years he had hoped for a rest from his work and now was awaiting the time of retirement, which would allow him to spend his remaining years in quiet. Many times he remarked that God was giving him strength to carry on. Although no longer with us in this life, he has left us an example of fatherly love that we may cherish always.
Funeral services were held from the home at 1:30 p.m. and from the Lutheran church at 2 p.m. Friday, the Rev. M.B. Lingwall, pastor in charge of the services. At the home Miss Elsie Peterson sang his favorite selection, "When I take My Vacation in Heaven," and at the church a quartette and a duet were special numbers given for the occasion.
The honorary pallbearers were Mr. L.E. Gagnon and Mr. Ralph Cooper of Boone. Acting pallbearers were A.A. Peterson, J.A. Swenson, Peter Swanson of Harcourt, Mr. Rex Parks and Mr. Lucas of Boone and Ralph Raider of Boxholm.
Out of town relatives and friends and friends came from Albert City, Boone, Des Moines and Fort Dodge and nearby communities, a large audience to pay sympathy and respect and say farewell to a friend. Interment was made in the Lost Grove cemetery.
"Lord teach us so to number our days that we may get us a heart of wisdom." Psalm 90:12. Peace be over his memory.
