He was raised on a farm at Fillmore, Allegan County, Michigan, and came to southern California about 1922. He attended UCLA and USC and was for many years a teacher and administrator in the Glendale public schools.
He was married to Ruth Evelyn Ives on June 28, 1929, at her home in Los Angeles.
They had 2 sons. After retiring they lived in Escondido and San Marcos, California.
His remains were donated to UCLA Medical Center.
