Rebecca Malinda Swigert, eldest daughter of Samuel W. and Sarah J. (Sheppard) Swigert, was born in Morgan County, Illinois October 7. 1854. The family moved to Kirksville, Missouri in 1868.
About a month after her fathers death in August 19, 1913 she moved into the St. Vincent's Home in Quincy, Illinois. She remained at the Home until her death, aged 62 years, Saturday March 17, 1917 of a complication of ailments, after an extended illness.
She was survived by one brother, Edgar Grove Swigert of Kirksville; and four sisters, Mrs. Rosa Raty Heinzman of Kirksville, Mrs. Ada Mae Hamilton of LaPlata, Mrs. Mary Catherine Gibson of Baronville, Nebraska, and Mrs. Elizabeth Anne Rogers, of Lodi, California.
Sunday, Grove accompanied her body to Kirksville. Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 19 , 1917 at the Swigert & Risdon Chapel by Rev. A. F. Ziegle, pastor of the Presbyterian church, followed by burial in Forrest cemetery.
