He married on December 25, 1869, Mound City, Kansas, to Rebecca Ruth Dean.
They moved to Independence, Kansas, where he served as Post Master.
The family then moved to Ogden, Utah, about 1890. There he became Commander of the Department of Utah, Grand Army of the Republic.
In 1908, he was running a boarding house at Ely, Nevada.
About 1916, they moved to Los Angeles.
