Talton Bryant Rains was the son of Rebecca Wright and William Gowen Rains. He was a grandson of John Rains Jr, the founder of this John Rains Cemetery, and a great-grandson of Captain John Rains, one of the first settlers of Nashville.
Talton Bryant Rains married Elizabeth Frances Nolen on 23 December 1860, and had the following children:
1. John Nolen Rains 1863-1915 (wife: May I Carmack)
2. James Gowen Rains Sr. 1870-1943 (wife: Cornelia Hortense Sneed)

Obituary: "Death of a Worthy Citizen. Mr. T. B. Rains, a worthy and highly esteemed citizen of the 8th district of Davidson county, died last Saturday evening of consumption." Published in 'Nashville Union and American' August 9, 1872, Page 4.

Talton was buried in the John Rains Cemetery on Nolensville Pike with his grandfather, father, wife, and sister-in-law among other family members. His grave was either unmarked there or his tombstone was missing and he may or may not have been moved in 2017 to Mount Olivet Cemetery when the rest of the members of the John Rains Cemetery were moved to Mount Olivet. If his unmarked grave wasn't moved, then his remains currently lie under a pavement parking lot at 5510 Nolensville Pike, Nashville.
