Liv Johannessen was born in Stavanger, Norway on January 24, 1924, the daughter of Johan G. and Hilda I. (Halvorsen) Johannessen.
Johan Johannessen (her father) had immigrated to the United States in 1923. Liv, her older sister (Kristine), and mother (Hilda) immigrated five years later (1929). Upon their landing in New York, Johan was at the dock to greet them. This was the first time that Liv had ever seen her father, and initially thought that Johan was her Uncle.
When Liv began school, her teacher called her Lydia, a name she never cared for, and the family went by the Johnson surname. Upon graduation from High School, she was given a gift of a trip home to Norway to visit her Grandparents. When WW2 broke out, she was unable to return to the USA, and suffered under the German Nazi's invasion.
Liv later married and raised her family of 3 children in Stavanger, Norway.
