Harlan R. Hosch, 83, of Danville died at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 19, 2003) at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center, Logan Campus, Danville.

He was born Oct. 20, 1920 in Danville, a son of Harry and Julie Linne Hosch. He married Jane Royse on Feb. 24, 1946, in Danville. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Harlan Hosch of Champaign and Chris Hosch of Danville; two daughters, Luana Oiler of Kentucky and Susan DeVoe of Indiana and 10 grandchildren.

He graduated from Danville High School and Ohio University in Athens. He attended the University of Illinois. He served in the Navy aboard a destroyer in the South Pacific during World War II and during the Korean War. He served in the Naval Reserves and retired as a commander.

He was a member of Bowman Avenue Methodist Church Board, Olive Branch Masonic Lodge 38 and Danville Consistory for more than 50 years. He was also a member of Ansar Shrine, Eastern Illinois Shrine Club and Gao Grotto. He was a past commander of American Legion Post 210, chief probation officer for Vermilion County, county treasurer, U.S. marshal for six years and Newell Township supervisor.
