He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, having received four Purple Hearts. He was a Life Member of the Denney-Moyers-Pratt Post #64 American Legion and a past member of the Post#9606 V.F.W. He was a member of the Oak Dale Christian Church and had retired from the Hardy County Schools after driving a school bus for 30+ years. He enjoyed walking up to 5 miles a day when able, working, deer hunting in his earlier years and read his bible daily.
Surviving is a son, Marvin Hardy of Petersburg, WV; two brothers, Victor (Betty) O. Hardy of Fisher, WV and Carl O. Hardy of Petersburg, WV; three sisters, Lura Evans of Petersburg, WV, Helen Hyre of Petersburg, WV and Anna Lee (Donald) Graham of Fort Ashby, WV; a sister-in-law, Levaughn Hardy of Rig, WV; two granddaughters, Natalie & Joe Dolan and Lauren and Jessie Mongold, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 PM Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington St., with the Rev. Charles Snyder officiating. Interment will follow with Military Graveside Rites Accorded by the U.S. Army at the Newhouse Cemetery, Rig Road, Moorefield, WV. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until at time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.
