Nathan Ashby Passes at 78

Retired Watchman Dies Here Sunday

Nathan Davis Ashby, 78, retired nightwatchman and resident of Franklin for the past thirty years, died at 8:30 o'clock Sunday morning in his home at 798 North Hurricane Street after a short illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Vandivier Funeral Home in charge of the Rev. Richard Lentz, pastor of the Tabernacle Christian Church. Burial will be made in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Ashby was born in Spencer County, Kentucky, on March 7, 1862, the son of Daniel and Sarah Worford Ashby. He married Miss Mary Frances Yates in 1880, and a daughter, Mrs. Carl Riker, of this city, was born to them.

He was a nightwatchman for the Wooley Lumber Co. in Franklin for more than 18 years, a member of the Red Men's Lodge, the Franklin Memorial Church. Mr. Ashby preceded her husband in death by two years.

Surviving with the daughter are one brother, William Ashby of Van Buren, Ky., a half-brother, Henry Ashby of Louisville, Ky.' a half-sister, Mrs. John Coslaw of Louisville, Ky.; a granddaughter, Miss Leah Margaret Riker of Franklin.

The body was removed to the Vandivier Funeral Home, where friends may call at any time previous to the funeral.
