Ladies and Gentlemen of the Patriot Guard Riders, we have been requested to stand for Edward Charles Phillips. He enlisted SEP 1942 and was honorably discharged OCT 1945 at the rank of MSgt. Edward was a Repeaterman-Telephone in the 4034th Signal Operation Company which landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day. He also participated in the Battle of St. Lo, France; July 1944, Battle of Aachen, Germany; October, 1944, Battle of the Bulge*, Ardennes; December-January, 1944-45, and Battle of Remagen, Germany; March 1945. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. Edward declined to receive the Purple Heart after sustaining a minor shrapnel wound during the Battle of the Bulge. On July 2, 2014 Edward was awarded the Legion of Honor Chevalier Award, for U.S. veterans who risked their life during World War II to fight on French territory. Those selected for this highest distinction are appointed to the rank of Knight of the Legion of Honor. This award is France's highest distinction.
