George E. Whitcomb

George E. Whitcomb, 68, of Bellevue, died Thursday Jan. 16, 1997 at home.
He was born Jan. 12, 1929, in Gaines to Harold F. and Evelyn (Reed) Whitcomb. He moved to Bellevue from Durand in 1960.
He was employed as an engineer for Grand Trunk Western Railroad for 37 years before retiring in 1985.
He married Shirley J. Springs on Nov. 8, 1947, in Roseville. She survives.
Also survivng[sic] are sons, George Whitcomb Jr. of Olivet and Gary, Randy, Ron and Dan Whitcomb of Bellevue; a daughter, Peg Masters of Otsego; 20 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue A. Whitcomb; a granddaughter, Janet Whitcomb; brothers, Harold, Kenneth and Paul Whitcomb; and a sister Ada M. Storm.
Community involvement, hobbies: Member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Bellevue Conservation Club, Michigan Harness Horsemen and the United States Trotters Association. Raised and trained horses. Enjoyed watching his cildren and grand-children play sports.
Visitation: After 2:3[sic] p.m. today at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, where the family will be present from 2:30 to 6 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Bellevue United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Thompson officiating.
Memorials: Good Samaritan Hospice Care or Bellevue Fire Department.
