CAROLE MACKLIN BRISCOE, 75, died of cancer on Friday, December 22, 2006. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, J. Richard Briscoe of Memphis, TN; her sister, Joan Macklin Cook of Dallas, TX; and a host of devoted friends and their families. Carole was graduated from Southwestern at Memphis, now Rhodes College, and from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA where she received a Masters degree. With her husband she was a former parishioner of Trinity-by-the-Cove Episcopal Church and member of the Port Royal Club of Naples, FL, where they maintained a home for more than twenty years. In Memphis she was a communicant of St. Mary's Cathedral of the Diocese of West Tennessee for more than forty-five years. She served as a member of the Women of the Cathedral and as a volunteer for the Episcopal Book Store and the Altar Guild. She was a generous supporter of Theatre Memphis, Rhodes College, the Memphis College of Art, the Memphis Humane Society, Opera Memphis and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. Carole loved the Cathedral, the arts, her friends, her friends' children and her own four-footed kids with a passion. She will be remembered by all who knew her as gentle and brave, the one who called everybody sweetheart when she was really the one. Thanks are extended to her physicians, Alfred Yung at M. D. Anderson in Houston, Suzanne Russo at Baptist Cancer Center in Memphis, Catherine Womack and Roy Tyrer; to her caretakers, Dora Stiger Rivers, Verna Wilson, Felicia Boateng; and to Crossroads Hospice, especially Susan Johnson, RN. Carole's husband and sister will receive friends in the Parish Hall of St. Mary's Cathedral at692 Poplar Avenue at1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26 preceding funeral services to be held in the Cathedral at 2 p.m. Internment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
