Late in life and after a career as a farmer and a builder the 56-year-old Charles married a 49-year-old neighbouring spinster named Lucetta Sutton who was his second cousin.
They adopted a young orphaned girl from Petersville-London West named Elizabeth Anna Hudd and renamed her Ellen Elizabeth Ann Morden.
Charles died of cancer of the rectum aged 65. His death was certified and informed by his cousin, Dr. George Albert Routledge, of Lambeth.
