Cassius Bacon is thought to have drowned while fishing on Lake Keuka. He was 49 years old. (He probably was born in 1897 or early 1898.) On October 18, 1947, his wife offered a reward for his body, but it was never found and a judge granted Letters of Administration for the probate of his estate in April 1955 when he had been missing for seven and a half years.

Cassius was the only son of Cyrus and Lelia Ludlow Bacon. He had three sisters. He married Anna Strode and they had five children. Two sons - Cassius Jr and Norman who died as infants, and three daughters - Donna Lou, Phyliss and Cynthia. He was the manager of a J.C.Pennys store. On October 31, 1947 there was an article in the paper when someone took over his job there.
