Former Grand Ole Opry performer and songwriting great Jean Chapel 70, died of cancer at her home in Florida. In 1960 Jean Chapel concentrated on songwriting in Nashville. Dozens of stars recorded her songs. Her biggest success was the No. 1 Eddy Arnold hit Lonely Again. She was married to Floyd Salty Holmes and they became the popular Grand Ole Opry act "Salty and Mattie O'Neill."

Survived by husband, Jefferson Calongne; son, Ken Woodruff; daughter, Lana Kolb; mother, Gertrude Ramsey; sisters, Bertha Garcia and Irene Cosse'; brothers, Glen, Lloyd and Conley Amburgey; five grandchildren; one great grandchild. Graveside services will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Park on Tuesday, August 15, 1995 at 9 a.m. with Bro. W. K. Johnson officiating. A memorial service will be held in the Woodlawn Chapel of Roses on Tuesday, August 15, 1995 at 7 p.m. with Br. Bill Carver officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 6-7 p.m., Tuesday. Donations may be made to Hospice Volusia-Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, Florida 32119. Arrangements by Woodlawn Funeral Home 383-4754.
