Lola Fitzgerald Ball passed away, Jan. 15, 2008 at her home in Denison. She was born July 5, 1925, and lived her entire life in Denison.

Lola was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Billy Duff Ball; her two sisters, Geraldine Cornelius and Ozelle Duke; one brother, Garland Fitzgerald; and her parents, Leona and Clyde Fitzgerald. She is survived by a sister, Jo Ellen Harmon of Ft. Worth; a daughter, Pam Wray of Carrollton; and a son, Danny Ball and his wife, Janie from San Antonio; and a very special daughter-like friend, Julia Richerson of Carrollton.

The great joys of her life were her family and dear friends and her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren, Duff, Luke, Sarah, Jason, Hillary, Kelly, Ellen and Logan. Her blessings continued with the births of her great-grandchildren, Drew, David Duff, Vincent Luke, Isabell Grace, Jacob, Tosh, Dillon and Noah.

She lived the all-American dream by marrying her high school sweetheart, Billy Duff Ball, Dec. 22, 1944. Her dream continued as she and Duff raised their two children in the admonition of the church with strong Christian values. Lola and her husband devoted many years of service to the First Presbyterian Church, where they were both elders.

Lola was a beautiful, loving person who radiated joy and was known for her keen sense of humor and tremendous capacity to spread laughter to whomever she encountered. Her unique character and style was well known among her large circle of friends as she left her indelible imprint on the lives of so many people, too numerous to mention.

One thing for certain, Lola will go down in history as one of the most “unforgettable characters” that anyone would have the privilege of meeting. Lola’s mantra is that she lived well, laughed often and loved much.

For all those who knew and loved Lola will agree that her love for golf was surpassed only by her love and devotion to her family and friends. She chaired many committees in her days at Woodlawn Country Club and volunteer work at her church, at Texoma Medical Center and Reba’s Rehab.

Later in life, Lola’s good friend was her cousin, Laverne Stillwell Martin. She and Laverne ate out together, held famous cousins’ parties almost every year, and simply enjoyed each other’s company. Since both Lola and Laverne lived in Denison, Texas, their husbands were deceased, and their children had moved away, they talked with each other by phone every night, said a prayer together on the phone, and went off to sleep. They were a real “hoot” at cousins parties.

Lola's life is a true testimony of what it means to be a devoted wife, friend, mother and grandmother. Her passing will leave a void in so many lives, but her indomitable spirit will dwell in our hearts forever.
