Samuel Lawrence Stewart 1890–1958, born in Ashland City, Tennessee.

A special note regarding one of his sons:
Redd Stewart (1923-2003) was an award winning country singer - songwriter. Redd joined up with Pee Wee King's band in the late 1930s achieving some popularity but it was not until after World War II that popularity turned into true success. Stewart began writing, inspired by his military service, wrote a huge hit for Ernest Tubb "A Soldier's Last Letter." Redd Stewart and Pee Wee King then co-wrote hits such as "Bonaparte's Retreat" and the enduring country classic "Tennessee Waltz." The hit songs kept coming with "Slow Poke" and "You Belong to Me" topping the charts in the early '50s, and the duo continued to play in bands together throughout the '60s including performances on the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
