Worth Harrington Bagley was born into a Navy family. He was the son of David Bagley who was a Navy commander at the time of Worth's birth. His mother, Marie Louise Harrington Bagley was the niece of Fleet Admiral William D. Leahy. After traveling around the world with his family as his father continued his naval career, Worth joined the Naval Academy. He graduated in 1946 (a year early due to World War II) and began his distinguished service in the Navy. He was the youngest four-star admiral in US history, and with his older brother became the only set of brothers serving as 4-star Admirals. At the time of his retirement in 1975 he was vice chief of naval operations.
