CHARLESTON - Mary Joan "MJ" (Keenan) Shannon, who was born November 24, 1929 in New York City, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in Charleston. The relatives and friends of Mrs. Mary Joan Shannon are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 22, 2014, from the Chapel of Bishop Gadsden, One Bishop Gadsden Way, Charleston. Final Interment will take place at a later time. The family will greet friends immediately following the service in Polly's Pub at Bishop Gadsden. Online Condolences may be offered at www.JamesAMcAlister.com. MJ was Catholic and a retired kindergarten teacher. She attended St. Joan of Arc grade school in Queens, High School of the Blessed Sacrament in Manhattan and St. Joseph's College for Women in Brooklyn. Mrs. Shannon was preceded in death by her parents Harry J. and Mary A. (McGrath) Keenan and her husband Edward J. Shannon, Jr. MJ is survived by her sister, Patricia Masters; her five children, Trip (Sharon), Tim, Pat (Patricia), Mike (Denise), and Susan; and eight grandchildren.
