She grew up in Los Angeles, California where she attended High School and completed three years of course work at various colleges in Southern California.
She worked for many years as a school secretary at various elementary schools in Los Angeles and eventually became the administrative assistant for the Los Angeles City Unified School District Board of Education. She was married to Chester Eugene Root Sr., a WWII veteran, for 63 years. They raised their family of four children in Huntington Park, California. Jessie was a life-time member of the PTA and served as President of the PTA at State Street Elementary School in Walnut Park, CA.
She and “Chet” retired to Cook, Minnesota in 1992. They enjoyed the years that they lived in Cook and made many dear friends. Faith was a vital part of Jessie’s life and she was always aware of God’s grace to her. She was an active member the First Baptist Church of Cook, Minnesota. She was a lover of books and an avid reader. Her mind was interested in a wide range of topics and subjects. She was also a fan of word games. She loved and was proud of her family and looked forward to time spent with them. She was and is admired for her strength of character, intelligence, perseverance, and generosity.
Jessie is survived by her children: Kathy, Jerry, and Jim; daughters-in-law: Margaret, Claudia, and Merilee; grandchildren: Amy (Tim), Mindy (Rusty), Greta (Jason), Matthew, Liza, Jeremy ( Michele), Alicia (Zach), Grady (Leanne), Jeff (Jori), Greg, Neil, and Emilee (Tracy); and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Chester, and son-in-law, Tad.
She loved and was proud of her family. She was and is admired for her strength of character, perseverance, integrity, and generosity.
