He was married on September 4, 1898 in Williamson County to Nancy Lenora "Nora" Jacobs (1880–1972), the daughter of Peter Gillen Jacobs (ca 1849– ) and Rebecca (Terrill) Jacobs (ca 1855– ).
A carpenter living at 4810 Nevada Avenue, Nashville, Walter was 60 years old when he died at home on January 12, 1936. Burial was the next day in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
