Alice Larson, 93, Stanley went to be with her Lord on October 26, 2016, surrounded by her family at Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 28, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Savior’s Free Lutheran Church, Stanley, with burial following at Fairview Cemetery, Stanley.
Alice was born April 2, 1923 at Palermo, ND to John and Bergit (Berge) Trovatten. She was raised and attended school in Palermo. Alice inherited her strong work ethic from her parents, who migrated from Oyjfell, Norway to North Dakota. From an early age, she herded the family cows on horseback, left school to help feed threshing crews, waitressed, and babysat, all to help her family survive.
Alice married Ervin Larson on October 18, 1942 at Palermo. They lived on the Larson farm south of Palermo. She and Ervin helped his mother, Emma, raise his younger sisters, Dolly and Elva. They had 5 children of their own while living on the farm. In 1952, they moved to Palermo and three more children were added to their family. Alice and Ervin, their children and her mother Bergit, moved to Stanley in 1963.
Alice was well known for sewing for her family and others in the community, along with being the local hairdresser, cutting and perming hair for many. She was a hard worker and loved being a full-time mother and homemaker.
Alice was always on the go, whether it was taking family and friends to doctor appointments, or just visiting . She traveled to many places, including Arizona, Alaska, Washington and Norway. Ervin called her his “Go-Go Girl”.

Her greatest joy and most important job was being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Even though Alice had many hardships in her life, losing her husband, son, Wayne and daughters, Linda and Carlotta, she would be the first to say what a blessed life she lived. The legacy she left us and her greatest prayer would be that her family loved each other and knew Jesus as their Lord and Savior. She taught us all how to forgive others just as Jesus forgives us.
She was a member of the Hospital Auxillary, Senior Citizens, Sons of Norway, and our Savior’s Free Lutheran Church. She wasn’t a member of the Palermo Pickers, but she was their biggest fan. She loved music, sewing, knitting and serving others.
Alice is survived by her children: Maxine (Bob) Brandolini, Sun City, AZ, Kathy (John) Vournas, Williston, ND, Gary (Laurie) Larson, Bismarck, ND, Cindy (Rob) Zaste, Williston, ND and Denny (Cheryl) Larson, Tulsa, OK; son-in-law, Jerry Alvstad, Tulsa, OK and daughter-in-law, Linda (Ron) Hamers, Stanley; sister Josephine Nelson, Gresham, OR; grandchildren: Penny Gravitt, Mike Alvstad, Jackie Ferguson, Tony Brandolini, Jennifer Register, Darin Larson, Doug Larson, Angelo Vournas, Vanessa Lovgren, Alex Vournas, Jacob Larson, Katelyn Larson, Emmalee Larson, Vince Nichols, Jared Nichols, Jocelyn Kolle, Chris Larson and Ashlee Larson; 26 great-grandchildren. She was also waiting for the arrival of 2 more great-grandchildren in November. Cousins: Evie (Bud) Skaar, Sundance, WY, Colleen Evenson, Stanley, ND, and a cousin in Norway; niece, Iva (Scott) Fox, Palermo, ND; sister-in-law, Dolly (Dale) Ellis, Minot, ND; numerous nieces and nephews.
