David Ralph Hamro of Seattle passed away peacefully into the arms of his LORD and Savior on May 28, 2016 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. David was born on May 19, 1936 in Mitchell, South Dakota to Cedric and Ruth (Mack) Hamro.

He grew up in Carthage where he graduated from Carthage High School in 1954. He attended the University of South Dakota, Vermillion. After five years of service in the Air Force as an AACS Technician in Japan and Thailand, Dave transitioned to the Boeing Company from 1962-1971 as a machinist. In 1974, he earned an accounting degree from the University of Washington School of Business. He worked for Alaska Airlines from 1974-1979 and returned to Boeing in 1979 where he worked as a Cost Analyst until his retirement in 1995. He was a dedicated member and past master of Genesis Lodge No. 305 and a fifty-year member of University Lutheran Church. He was a man with a servant's heart who taught us how to be polite and treat others with respect.

In 1962, Dave came to Seattle for the World's Fair. He met and married the love of his life, Martha Johnson. They married on February 23, 1963 and together they had three daughters and 4 granddaughters. Dave routinely greeted all within his Wallingford neighborhood, eventually earning him the moniker, "Mayor of the Alley." He was an avid gardener and "putterer." You could regularly find him out in the yard watering, planting and famously over-pruning everything. Over the years, Dave enjoyed cheering on the Huskies. After retirement, Dave and Martie wintered in Arizona, annually attending Mariners Spring Training.

Preceded in death by his parents, Cedric and Ruth Hamro, his brother, Burdette Allen Hamro and his mother-in-law, E. Pearl Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martha Hamro, his daughters, Susan (Pat) King, Sarah Hamro (Dean Desimone) and Alicia (Steve) Walsh, and his granddaughters, Laura and Rebecca King, Mackenzie and Rachel Walsh, his sisters, Mary Jo Tiller, Cyd Marjean (Dave) Wyatt, brother-in-law, Joe Johnson and Anne Haydon and his nieces and nephews.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all who helped care for Dave over the last four years especially the staff at Edmonds Swedish Hospital and Evergreen Hospice. They treated him with love, compassion and respect.

Services will be held at University Lutheran Church, 1604 NE 50th St., Seattle on Saturday, June 18th at 11:00am followed immediately by a celebration of life at the same location. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to University Lutheran Church, Evergreen Hospice, or the charity of your choice .
