ELKHART - Janet Louise (Werner) Bechler, age 70 of Elkhart, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2016 at her home in Elkhart following a brief but difficult battle with cancer. Janet was born May 30, 1946 to the late Paul and Kathryn Werner. On July 3, 1996 she married James Bechler of Pigeon, Michigan.

Surviving are her children Lisa (Dave) Linville of East Leroy, Michigan, Todd (Christina Steinbergs) Trigg of South Bend, and Jamie (Steve) Eggers of Nappanee, Indiana. Also surviving is her brother Ralph (Cathy) Werner of Mishawaka and step-children Jimmy Bechler of Quincy, Michigan and Shawn (Scott) Huys of Middlebury. Surviving as well are nine grandchildren; Kasey Correll, Danielle Correll, Alex Steinbergs, Zac Huys, Josiah Eggers, Sierra Eggers, Cameron Huys, Justin Bechler and Austen Steinbergs. Janet is also survived by a great-granddaughter Sophia Cowsert and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Paul and Kathryn Werner, a sister Linda Werner, her brother Gary Werner, a niece Shelley Werner and a nephew Paul Werner.

A memorial benefit will be held in Janet's honor from 4-10 pm Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 19 hall in Elkhart. Zimmerman Inman Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Janet graduated from Mishawaka High School and Indiana University with a degree in teaching. This was something she was very passionate about. In 2010, she retired from Earthway Products.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Elkhart General Hospital and the Center for Hospice in Elkhart for the care and concern shown to their family during Janet's time of need. In her memory, donations may be made to the Janet Bechler Benefit/Memorial Fund at any local branch of the Interra Credit Union.
