ALBANY Leon R. Acker, 97, passed away Monday, April 19, 2010 at Julie Blair Nursing Home. Leon was born in Worcester, N.Y., a son of the late Emerson and Myra (Truax) Acker and was a longtime resident of the Capital District. He worked as a construction worker for many years with the Local Union #190, helping to build such monuments to Albany such as the Corning Towers and the original Dunn Memorial Bridge. Leon was fond of singing and was a member of the Glenmont Apostolic Church. Leon is survived by his sons, Dennis Acker, Howard Acker and Raymond Acker; daughters, Arlene Sill, Lorie Slingerland, Linda Tuck, Brenda Martin and Nicole Fyan; 35 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by wives, Beatrice E. (Pitt) Acker and Hulda M. (Chase) Acker and children, Leon E. Acker, Thomas J. Acker, Francis M. Coons, Priscilla D. Sill and Marion Acker. The funeral service will be Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Calling hours will precede the service Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Onesquethaw Union Cemetery.
