John stated in his CSA pension paperwork that he served in Major White's Headquarters, Austin, Texas - He drove beef cattle from Texas to Vicksburg, Mississippi and to Louisiana. He enlisted in the Spring of 1863 and served about 2-3 years. (Note: His daughter Paralee married Jesse I Pourner.) Jesse Pourner was shown on John's Mortuary Warrant in his CSA pension records and John was his father-in-law. Jesse lived in Lovelady, Tx. The undertaker was Mainer and Sons of Lovelady. They sold the coffin and burial robe for $30.00 in 1919. They stated the burial would take place at the Antioch Cemetery in Lovelady, Texas. His doctor was W H Brown and had been taking care of him from Jan 1, 1919 to March 20, 1919. John had fallen into a fire and was badly burned according to the certificate of physician On John's pension records.
