Mary Moody Emerson's Uncle Samuel Bliss (1750-1803) was a loyalist who emigrated to Canada at the time of the American Revolution and married Mary Harwood in 1779; their only child, Mary Harwood Bliss (1783-1868), married Deacon Samuel Hewes of Boston.
