Peggy Converse-Shanks age 96 of Brainerd, passed away November 1, 2016 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living. She was born Blanche Aldelaide Alder on May 20, 1920 in Olmstead County. She married Albert Converse on Feb 14, 1939 and celebrated 68 years of marriage at his death in 2007. In May of 2016, she married her companion of 8 years, Dale Shanks. She worked as a Matron at Brainerd High School for many years. Peggy had a love of fishing, bowling, Cooking and enjoyed going for car rides to look at deer. Being with her grandchildren always made her smile.
She is survived by her husband, Dale Shanks; sons, Dennis (Lois), Roger (Alleen), grandchildren Kelly, Jeff, and Julie; 7 great grandchildren; step children, Pamela (Dan) Perrine, Bradley (Carol) Shanks, Teresa (Marty, Jr) Olson, Cynthia Shanks, Vicki Johnson, Jeffery Shanks, Nancy (Dave) Mellesmoen; 33 step-grandchildren, 21 great step-grandchildren, and 2 great great step-grandchildren; sister Pauline Streiff.
She is preceded in death by her husband Albert, and grandchildren James and Jodi Converse.
Funeral service will be on Monday, November 7, 2016, 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, Brainerd, Pastor Steve Benson presiding. Visitation will take place one hour prior to service at church. Interment will be at Evergreen/Motley City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
