Piqua-- James William Gates, 84, a native of Shelby County, died Saturday at 2:30 a.m. at the Piqua Manor Nursing Home.

He was born Feb. 14, 1899, in Shelby County.

His wife, the former Jeanette McCool, died in 1978.

Mr. Gates retired from the Decker Packing Co. in Piqua.

Graveside services were held today at Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua, with the Rev. Glenn Hurdle officiating.

Arrangements were handled by the Jamieson Funeral Home.
