Luxembourg noblewoman. She was a Swedish-German tourism hostess. When she married Prince Lennart of Sweden in 1932 he was forbidden by the King of Sweden to continue using his titles there. In 1951 he and his wife were given the titles Prince and Princess Bernadotte and Count and Countess of Wisborg in the nobility of Luxembourg by that country's head of state, his relative Grand Duchess Charlotte. Karin Bernadotte helped her husband establish his inherited island of Mainau in Germany as a very successful and attractive tourism establishment with famous gardens. The nasty treatment they had for decades from the Royal Court of Sweden, however, effected her sanity and problems developed which led to their amicable divorce in 1971. They remained on good terms and Karin even visited Mainau after Lennart had been remarried, to a young employee there. Karin Bernadotte was in Sweden when she passed away and was buried in her father-in-law's grave.
