Mr. Blumback is listed in an old St. Ambrose burial record as having died at the age of 27 yrs. secondary to the influenza virus in 1919. This epidemic swept through Iowa primarily between 1918-1919. I was unable to find any other information on him in Ancestry. It's hard to say where he was from since many people were in Des Moines because of this illness, & quarantined at Camp Dodge. There was no treatment for this illness, so contracting it was a certain, miserable death sentence. I don't know where he was buried, nor if there was a marker. We will certainly watch for it as we are currently recording all the burials at St. Ambrose.
