Bertha Mae Walker, age 84, of Somerset, KY, departed this life on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Bertha was born on September 9, 1932 in Nancy, KY to the late Minnie E. and Magola Wilson Compton. She is a graduate of Somerset High School. She lived for a short time in California before making her home in Lincoln Park, Michigan, where she worked and lived most of her life. Bertha worked as a bookkeeper at Woodmere Cemetery for many years. She later moved to Somerset in 1986 to care for her mother.
She is survived by a sister, Beulah Powers of St. Petersburg, FL; a sister-in-law, Edna Compton of Somerset, KY; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew “Jack” Walker, whom she married on July 24, 1969 and he preceded her on April 7, 2010; three brothers, Lloyd Compton, Leonard Compton and Carl Compton; two sisters, Madeleine Tarter and Bernice Muller; seven nieces, Betty Jean (and George) Thurman, Janice (and Billy Joe) Thompson, Janice Marie (and Tim) Debacker, Carla Eldridge, Sabrina Argiro, Jolyn (and Mike) Honeycutt, and Joy (and Lee)Orr; five nephews, David (and Ena) Compton, Gary (and Lisa) Compton, Danny Compton, Tony Compton, and Richard Richards; along with many great nieces and nephews; and a special great niece, Kristina Murphy Richeson.
Her funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Phelps officiating. Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery.
