Aliayah Lunsford was last seen in her bed in the Ben Dale area of Lewis County in September 2011. The girl’s mother reported her missing in a 911 call and the search for her received national attention.
“Today is a somber yet successful day for the investigators standing in front of you, along with the many others concerned with the disappearance of an innocent 3-year-old child,” Lewis County Sheriff Adam Gissy said during a Friday morning press conference in Weston. “It comes with great sadness that I report that Aliayah Lunsford, who went missing on Sept. 24, 2011, is deceased. Evidence has come to light that Aliayah was killed by her mother, Lena Lunsford.”
