Billy Charles Bailey Jr. was born in Clovis New Mexico. At the age of 28 he fulfilled his dream in becoming a police officer. He was married to his eternal companion and best friend Brenda Burkett for 43 years at the time of his passing, and they raised 3 wonderful children together and have 6 precious grandchildren.
He loved God, his country, his family, his friends, he loved everyone and he was loved by all who knew him.
He was always willing to help those in need. He was kind and generous with his time and was always sticking up for the underdog. He treated everyone the same regardless of who you were or what your station in life was. That's how he earned the name "Bubba" as a police officer. His Department was a part of his extended family. He was a true brother to all. He carried stuffed animals in the trunk of his patrol car to give to scared or hurting children in domestic situations. He often bought kids snacks when on duty at ball parks. He danced in the mornings at school traffic to brighten the children's day. The children and teens of the community loved him as well as the parents that knew he was watching out for them. He was the same kind, gentle, cheerful person every time you met him. I can't even count the number of times people I do and don't even know have walked up to me, before and after his passing, and shared with me how he had helped to change their lives for the better.
While no doubt the burdens of life weighed heavily upon him at times, especially after being diagnosed with cancer, he refused to bow or bend under them. He carried his own sorrows upon his heart withought any attempt to put them on the shoulders of others. He was a devoted and loving husband, Father, Grandfather, and Brother. Family was everything to him and he enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping, and exploring historic and fun sites with them. He built fires in the backyard for roasting marshmallows with his grandchildren and loved to tell them stories of his youth and his experiences as a police officer. He was their PaPa and they adored him. He loved playing his guitar and jamming with his brother Michael. Music was always a big part of his life and he was teaching his grandson Austin how to play guitar.
There was an immense crowd of family, neighbors, and friends gathered at the church to show their last respects to this good man at his funeral. It was a crowd upon whose faces could be plainly seen an expression of sorrow, sympathy, and regret. All seemed to realize they had lost a true friend and the community had lost one of its best citizens. May his life be an inspiration to us all. He is now resting from all his labors. His work on earth is done but through the grace and the goodness of God he SURVIVED! Our hearts are sad and broken but we will someday meet him where sorrow and tears will be no more.

He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May 2016 but was told it hadn't spread and he was one of the lucky 90% that was elligible for surgery and a possible cure. After 12 rounds of Chemo, he was ready for the surgery. They did the 11 hour surgery on Oct. 24, 2016 and he was preparing to go home a few days later as all had gone well. On Nov. 2 complications set in from the surgery and he very quickly passed away. His wife was by his side but it happened so quickly there was no time to say goodbye. He will always be dearly loved and missed by his family, coworkers and friends. He rests in the arms Of Jesus now and waits for us on the other side.

( Bio by his wife, Brenda)

An Ocean breeze or a starry night,
Never again will either feel right.
Vacations, Travels, New places to see,
Without you, mean only tears to me.
No cars, no houses, no new fangled things,
Will ever make me happy again.
No movies, no books, no songs i hear,
Will ever stop the constant tears.
Eating out, shopping, and hobbies galore,
Only make me miss you more.
Ice cream sundae's or chocalate cake,
I Don't care what they make.
Concerts, parties, holidays too,
Only make me more and more blue.
If the sun shines or if the rain falls,
it doesn't matter to me at all.
For what is life and what is air?
Without you here, I don't care.
