He was a son of Dorothy Sloas Yates Whitt of Bruin, KY and the late Beecher Yates.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a half brother, Steve Yates.
His survivors include: his wife, Louise Knipp Yates; 2 sons, Eric Wayne Yates of Salem, VA and Beecher Allen Yates of Grayson, KY; 1 daughter, Kimberly and Andrew Salyers of Sandy Hook, KY; 4 sisters, Margret Smith of Maxton, NC, Jenanne Pearson of Walsenburg, CO, Sandra Markwell of Sandy Hook, KY and Janet Cassel of Grayson, KY; 3 brothers, James Yates of Sandy Hook, KY, Ronnie Yates of Columbia, SC and George Yates of Sandy Hook, KY; 3 half brothers, Donnie Whitt of Grayson, Johnny Whitt of Carmel, CA and Randy Yates of Frankfort, KY
1 half sister, Carla Dinkins of Winder, GA; 3 grandchildren; 24 nieces and nephews.
