Madison Courier--December 27, 2006

Randall Lloyd Rogers, 83, Leicester, Mass., died at the Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge, Mass.

He was born on April 11, 1923, in Jefferson County, the son of Ernest E. and Lena E. (Green) Rogers.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He graduated from Hanover College in 1951 holding degrees in physics and education.

He worked for a year at the Jefferson Proving Ground installing radio equipment and then became a civilian employee of the U.S. Government in Leicester. His career with the government spanned 47 years and a variety of positions. Prior to his retirement in 1992, he was a physicist for Benet Labs in Watervliet, N.Y.

He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Canaan, and a five-year member of the Canaan Masonic Lodge. He was a member and past master of the Masonic Lodge in Troy, N.Y., a member of the Scotish Rite-Springfield Consistory, and a member of the Melha Shriners in Springfield, Mass., where he was in the Legion of Honor and the Drum Crops. He was especially interested in performing as a drummer in the Shrine band, while raising money for the Shriner's hospitals. He was also an amateur genealogist and enjoyed local history.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jane C. (Coleman) Rogers of Leicester; a son, Gerrit L. Rogers of Easthampton, Mass.; four daughters, Susan Rogers of Leicester, Betsy-Lynn Benoit of Cherry Valley, Mass., Carol-Ann Tripp of Watertown, Tenn. and Mary Jane Heulsman of Leicester; two brothers, Lee Rogers of Canaan, Lynn C. Rogers of Centerville, Ohio; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral was held on Dec. 20, 2006 at the Morrison-Morin Funeral Home in Leicester, Mass., and burial was at the Pine Grove Cemetery also in Leicester.
