Vol.3 p.664 - Alexander Dayton. Committed by C. W. Langdon Judge of Sonoma Co. April 12th 1867. Age 34 years; native of Missouri; is married and has 4 children, the youngest 2 1/2 years old; was last from Illinois; occupation, farmer. The evidence of insanity is sleeplessness and loss of appetite - talks wild. This is the first attack and first appeared two weeks since; is most rational during the early part of the night; has no hallucination; has attempted to kill his wife from sudden passion; is suicidal but the propensity is not active; is not filthy or destructive; has no insane relations. Before the attack he was temperate and industrious, but got drunk a month since; has not suffered from disease or injury; bowels constipated and sleepless; cause of insanity not known; class, Homicidal and Suicidal. Admitted April 14th 1867. Has no property. Discharged December 19th 1867.

Vol.4 p.161 - Alexander Dayton. Committed by C. W. Langdon Judge of Sonoma Co., April 20th 1868. Age 33 years; native of Missouri; married and has 3 children, the youngest 4 years old; was last from Illinois; has been in California 12 years; occupation, farmer. The evidence of insanity is sleeplessness - talks wildly. This attack appeared about five weeks since and is the second, the first appeared over a year ago. (He has been in this Asylum before see Commitment no.2729 Vol.3 page 664.) Disease increasing with no rational intervals since the last attack - no hallucination. He has attempted to kill his wife; is disposed to injure others from sudden passion; is not suicidal; is very destructive; has no insane relatives; had no peculiarities; has been somewhat intemperate with Tobacco; has not suffered from disease or injury; no change in physical health; cause of insanity unknown; class, homicidal and suicidal; no treatment. Admitted April 22nd 1868. Has no property. Died December 17th 1870 of chronic disease of brain.

Alexander Dayton was the son of Noel Datin and Nancy McDonall. He was the husband of Catherine Gurl and had four children; John Joseph, William Albert, Henry and Anna "Annie" Dayton.
