Private Beach was captured by the Union Army in Benton Co. Arkansas July 29, 1863. He was reported as a prisoner Aug. 4, 1863. On Sept. 4, 1869 he was sent from Springfield, Missouri to St. Louis, MO and asked to be exchanged. November 20, he was sent to Camp Morton, Indiana and held there until March of 1864. He was transferred to Fort Delaware, Del. March 18, 1864. In March 1865 Beach was sent to City Point, Virginia for exchange. He was exchanged and freed March 7, 1865.
